Christine
from Luton
I was working in a shop just
stacking shelves in the evening, while I was
going through a divorce.
This particular day I had just
taken my children to school and was getting in
my car which was parked in the supermarket car
park. The car had central locking like so many
cars these days. I got in one side and this
bloke got in the other. I was so scared but I
knew this man he was a security man where I
worked. He seemed upset and told me he had just
come back from his wife s funeral. I was stupid
and took him home for a coffee. He saw a
picture of my daughter and said she looked like
his daughter who had died. After that day we
used to talk on the phone. I felt sorry for him
that was my big mistake. After a few weeks of
talking to him on the phone he moved to London.
but we still kept talking then one night while I
was talking to him his front door bell went and
then I heard a bang. He said I have been shot,
then the phone line went dead. I rang back and
his housemate said he had been shot by someone
driving passed he had phoned the police and an
ambulance. I found out which hospital he had
been taken to and I went to visit him the
following day.
When I got there the police took
me one side for a statement and called me his
girlfriend I pointed out I was not his girl
friend. The police gave me a newspaper in which
he had told the story of how he was shot and all
about me.
It turns out he shot himself why
i will never know. His wife is alive and so is
his daughter. The police had my phone number
changed. I learnt a strong lesson that day,
never to trust anyone.
They may not be what they seem.
